Instrumental Ensembles at Terra State Community College in Fremont are forming for the fall semester.
Terra Brass Choir is an ensemble open to all brass instrumentalists (trumpet, trombone, horn, euphonium and tuba). The Brass Choir is known for its popular "Organ and Brass" concerts and their collaborative performances with Terra’s choral and chamber music programs. Performing both classical and contemporary works, the Terra Brass Choir meets Mondays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 9.
Terra State Jazz Band is a full Big Band ensemble that specializes in both traditional and contemporary styles of jazz, swing, funk, blues and more. Open to instrumentalists (sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, piano, guitar and drums), the Jazz Band meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 5 with a special open house. All interested musicians are invited that night to bring their instruments and sit in with the band or just enjoy listening in Terra's new Recital Hall, Building D, Room 122.
Terra Jazz Combos are interactive jazz ensembles that focus on playing traditional jazz standards, blues, funk and works to develop improvisation skills. Open to both instrumentalists and vocalists, the Terra Jazz Combos meet at various times throughout the week. Terra Contemporary Ensemble is open to instrumentalists and vocalists, and focuses on the performance of popular music in a variety of styles. The emphasis is placed on appropriate individual and ensemble performance techniques, collaboration, and arrangement. Terra Chamber String Ensemble specializes in classical and traditional chamber string music, performing both a fall and spring chamber concerts as well as for other community events. Open to string instrumentalists (violin, viola, cello and bass), the string ensemble rehearses on Thursdays from 7 to 9:20 p.m. beginning Sept. 5 with a special open house. All interested musicians are invited to Building D, Room 120, on the campus of Terra State to hear more about the string ensemble and Terra's music programs or call the music department at 419-559-2233.
Terra Guitar Ensemble is a focused chamber ensemble that performs classical, traditional and contemporary works for guitarists. It’s perfect for developing music reading skills (acoustic guitars only). Those interested in the guitar ensemble should call 419-559-2233 to register.
Terra Harp Ensemble is a unique ensemble that performs both traditional and contemporary works specially arranged for harps by renowned harpist Karen Westgate. Harps are available to rent. Those interested please contact the Music Office at 419-559-2233.
