In the course of their meeting, Board members approved several personnel issues including hiring two bus drivers, Brian Oestrich and Lynn Reau, to fill positions left vacant due to resignation/retirement. The Board granted supplemental contracts to Noah Neiderhouse and Krysteena Lawrence as Young Farmers advisors, approved both certified and classified substitute employees for the 2014-2015 school year, and approved a revised job description for the middle school assistant principal position.
Board members also approved High School student parking and drug testing fees for the coming school year (unchanged from the 2013-2014 school year) and approved the Student Athletic Handbook, Coaches Handbook, and the B-C-S Staff Handbook for the 2014-2015 School Year. The Board approved the new Volunteer Handbook to serve as a resource for the generous individuals who contribute so much to the children of B-C-S. Superintendent Guy Parmigian explained that the development of the handbook was thanks to about a year worth of effort by the district’s Intra-District Goals Committee.
Lastly, the Board heard a first reading of potential revisions to their policy on School Volunteers. The revisions would require additional FBI criminal background checks on volunteers who have unsupervised access to children. Volunteers who have unsupervised access to children, such as chaperoning a field trip, already are required to have state (BCII) criminal background checks.
The next Benton-Carroll-Salem Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, at 6 p.m. at the Oak Harbor High School Media Center.
