The Port Clinton High School Concert Band will pay tribute to “The March King”, John Philip Sousa, at their Saturday, May 18, concert. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the PCHS Performing Arts Center. Admission is free; however, a free will donation will be taken at the end of the concert.
Music includes something for everyone of all ages and will conclude in traditional Sousa style with the playing of “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Felita LaRock of the U.S. Air Force Band will be the guest vocal soloist for the concert. Mr. Rod Miller, PCHS Band Director, will portray John Phillip Sousa.
The PCHS Band always honors veterans at the Sousa concert, and this year will pay special tribute to Pearl Harbor survivors that will be in attendance. Audiences have always been close to capacity and the same is expected again this year. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and seating is on a first come, first served basis.
The Port Clinton Music Boosters are having a BBQ Chicken Dinner prior to the concert in the PCHS Cafeteria. Dinners are $8.50 each. Tickets can be purchased from any Port Clinton High School or Grade 8 Band or Orchestra member or by contacting Rod Miller at Port Clinton High School, 419-734-2147.
Mr. Miller is currently in his 7th year as director of bands for the Port Clinton City Schools and this is the 25th year he has presented such a concert. This concert is also the farewell performance for several PCHS senior band members who will be recognized at the concert.
