
The Board approved several employee transfers, resignations, and contracts for current classified employees, including the transfer of Cathy Lajti from head cook at Oak Harbor High School to become a member of the maintenance department team. The Board also approved a new contract for Mr. Keith Thorbahn, current principal at Oak Harbor High School, to serve as the district’s Director of Administrative Services beginning in August, 2014. In an email to all district staff, Superintendent Guy Parmigian explained that he selected Thorbahn for the position because he is a problem solver who will be a key leader to help him further the mission of the school district.
The B-C-S Board also accepted with gratitude the following donations: $500 from the Oak Harbor Area Merchants Girls Softball League to the Oak Harbor High School Softball Camp fund; $1000 from Leslie Avery and Don St. Clair for improvements to the softball facility; several items including an audio system for the sensory room at R.C. Waters Elementary School from an anonymous donor; $2,125 from the Oak Harbor Athletic Booster Club toward the cost of a new volleyball training machine and an additional $250 to benefit the Oak Harbor Softball Camp account for player expenses incurred during the Ohio Invitational; and $500 from the Boosters to the Oak Harbor Boys Soccer Camp fund to offset summer team camp expenses.
In other business, the Board approved fee schedules for Acorn Alley and Rocket Overtime for next school year. There were no increases in these fees. The Board also approved food services prices for the 2014-2015 school year. Breakfast at all buildings will be $1.50; lunch at R.C. Waters will be $2.25; lunch at Oak Harbor Middle School will be $2.50; and lunch at Oak Harbor High School will be $2.75. These lunch prices remain on the low end compared with other schools in our area.
The B-C-S Board of Education also passed two resolutions acknowledging Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9) and National School Nurse Day (May 7).
The next Benton-Carroll-Salem Board meeting is scheduled for May 27, at 6 p.m. in the Oak Harbor High School Media Center. A reception honoring retirees will take place before the meeting at 5:30.
