Heidi Steyer, Captain Award (Staff)
Ask any recent graduate of Port Clinton High School “Who helped guide you through your senior year?” and they would most certainly reply with “Mrs. Steyer”. As the Junior/Senior Guidance Counselor at Port Clinton High School, Heidi Steyer helps guide students through college requirements, course selection, career or college choices. She spends many evenings meeting with parents and there is a constant stream of students waiting to meet with her on a daily basis. She has also helped supports students in times of tragedy and coordinated school-wide counseling efforts.
Port Clinton City School District is proud of the course options offered to students. However, with all the educational options (Post Secondary, Tech Center, Vocational, etc.) it can be overwhelming to students and their parents. Mrs. Steyer’s calm demeanor assists in the big decisions these young adults will be making for their future. For her dedication to helping PCHS students become successful adults, Mrs. Heidi Steyer was recognized with a Flagship Captain Award
Tom & Lisa Geisheimer, First Mate Award (Parents)
Tom & Lisa Geisheimer, the proud parents of Bobby Geisheimer, are often seen at Port Clinton City School events, meetings, and programs. They volunteer in many ways to help the school district and students, not only by donating from their business, Cheesehaven, but by giving of their time as well. From Parents Club meetings to field trips to safety patrol, the Geisheimers are always ready to help.
If there is an activity that involves students, they are there helping to do anything that needs to be done for the kids. Their efforts are sometimes behind the scenes and may go unnoticed to many; however, the school district greatly appreciates their dedication and generosity. For their commitment to the students of the Port Clinton City School District, Tom & Lisa were presented with the Flagship First Mate Award.
Stein Hospice , Crew Award (Community)
Stein Hospice Service has been a welcome partner during unwanted circumstances the last year. They have worked with counseling staff at Bataan Intermediate to help students cope with the loss of teachers during the 2012-13 school year and most recently to help the staff and students at Port Clinton Middle School deal with the loss of a student.
Their knowledge and guidance has helped students and staff adjust through the difficult grieving processes. When PCHS lost students to tragic accidents a few years ago, they were on site to assist the school district. They work closely with guidance counselors and staff members to offer important training, always with compassionate care.
“You are not alone” is the slogan for Stein Hospice, along with “integrity, courage, excellence, respect, compassion”. The loss of teachers and students is difficult and heart-breaking, but with the help of Stein Hospice staff and students have learned how to go through the grieving process together. In appreciation of all their support, care and guidance, the Port Clinton Board of Education honored Stein Hospice with a Flagship Crew Award.
